There is so much to life than partying!

WINDHOEK – Roses and pizzas, broken touch screen heart, the late night orgies of the week-end, the one night stands that don’t last like Bluetooth and infra-red, the kisses affecting veins with memories, the miss-using and glorification of alcohol/sex/drugs classified as “knock you out Fridays”.  I’ve been scanning the city of Windhoek with my eyes lately, and a few idols are knocking the sense out of some people during the week-end but mostly young people are victims to such.

There is more to life than just ‘You Only Live Once’ (YOLO) and swag but thank God those words are slowly fading away. Can you still enjoy life/the week-end without being an animal? Or wasting your life? Looking like you just came from a boxing match and your steps miss-directed. Surely it’s possible because it will take a drunken person hour to enter a door because according to him there are ten different doors ‘Laugh Out Loud’ (LOL).

I’ve realised that A lot of this young people lack creativity, for instance there is so much productive fun you can do during the week-end like playing play station at home with friends, skateboarding, going to the gym, watching movies, cooking, etc. You do not have to turn to alcohol just because you are bored or has nothing to do. House parties won’t help you as much, and as for ladies, when you find yourself waking up next to some random dude in the morning, confused, questioning yourself, wasted, then that might just be too late. It simply shows that you are an easy target. Keep your standards high and don’t be cheap like Pep Stores.

It’s like rocking in Foschini and coming out without buying anything…all you want is attention instead of being cherished by the man designed for marriage and your dreams. Before you know it you have seven glasses. Excessive alcohol works your body and beat the sense out of you. The smell is unattractive. It’s time to mature and realise that there is so much fun out there than being at the Warehouse every Friday knocking yourself out. Alcohol causes aggressive and disturbing behaviours and they are the main cause of broken families and yet children grow up around such things.

The antidote becomes creativity and excitement about what’s more to life. I’m not saying attend a church service but know that God is never boring. Find out what activities you can be part of or hang out with some friends who don’t drink or smoke because influence plays big role. Don’t be an easy target in the ring. I’ve also realised that lots of this young people adopted such behaviours from parents.

I must admit that peer pressure, stereotypes and societal standards play a large part when deciding on whether or not to consume alcohol but you are responsible for your own actions. When the habit of partying and drinking takes over your life then it becomes an unstoppable addiction. So at some point you have to know your worth, put your skills at work, do something that will benefit you in the future and most importantly you need to realise that there is more to life than just partying, smoking and drinking.
