WINDHOEK – Namibia’s top Paralympic athletes Johanna Benson and Johannes Nambala will lead a 25-strong delegation of Paralympic athletes to Stellenbosch, South Africa today where they will represent Namibia at the Nedbank National Championships for the Physically Disabled slated for March 30 to April 2 at the Stellenbosch Athletic Stadium.

Namibia Paralympics Committee (NPC) Secretary General, Penandino Kandjii, said the Nedbank National Championships for Physically Disabled athletes is an International Paralympics Committee (IPC) sanctioned event and will serve as an ideal platform for Namibian paralympians to improve their times and hopefully qualify for the 2016 Rio Paralympics and the 2015 World Championship in Doha, Qatar.

Kandjii oozed confidence, saying they expect the team to perform well, since they have world class athletes such as the Paralympic gold and silver medalist Johanna Benson and World Championship gold medalist Johannes Nambala, Ananias Shikongo and Ruben Soroseb, amongst others.

Since its inception in 1992 the Nedbank National Championships has over the years proved to be the best multi-sport feeder system for national Paralympics teams across southern Africa, while the event also includes athletes who are visually impaired.
