Alleged murderer denied bail

Home Crime and Courts Alleged murderer denied bail

WINDHOEK – Nikodemus Albanus, 24, was denied bail when he appeared on a charge of murder in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

He allegedly stabbed Shiweda Nestor Thobias, 33, to death on Independence Day at the Willy Bar in the notorious Greenwell Matongo residential area.

The head of the Namibian Police Public Relations Division, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi, informed the media on Sunday that Thobias was stabbed once on the left side of his back with an okapi knife and he died on the spot.

The matter was remanded to May 7 for further police investigations and to enable the accused to enlist the services of legal aid. Albanus indicated that he would apply for a State funded lawyer.

Prosecutor Peter Kandjumbwa objected to the accused being granted bail because of the seriousness of the offence, and because the investigations were at a sensitive stage.
