By Surihe Gaomas WINDHOEK The Managing Director of Legal Shield, Stanley Katzao, who was suspended late last year, will hear about his fate following an internal (disciplinary) hearing which starts today. The hearing follows Katzao’s suspension pending an investigation last November. Confirming this to New Era yesterday, Managing Director of Trustco Group International, Quinton van Rooyen, said this is an internal matter on which he did not wish to elaborate. “It will be done internally by external people and, yes, I am aware of the hearing,” said Van Rooyen, adding that he is not yet aware of the charges levelled against Katzao. He, however, said that the hearing would be presided over by Acting Judge Hosea Angula as the Chairman and Advocate Louis Botes will be presenting the evidence. When contacted, Advocate Botes of Society of Advocates said there are two charges levelled against Katzao but, since they are still considering the legalities and facts, he did not find it proper to divulge what these charges are at this point in time. “We are still considering the charges. The draft charges have been presented to Mr Katzao, but a report will only be made available once we have presented the charges to him,” explained Advocate Botes. Katzao’s suspension was made known to Legal Shield and other Trustco Group Holdings’ staff members through an internal circular last year. At the time, Katzao also confirmed to New Era that he had been handed a letter of suspension. Though the letter did not reveal exactly why he was being suspended, it stated that there are “matters” to be investigated. Katzao added that the letter further stated that once investigations were complete and he was found not guilty, he would be called back to work. According to him, the company is listed on the Namibian Stock Exchange and, in the name of good corporate governance and in the interest of all stakeholders, it is only proper that the allegations be investigated and the truth established. This should be done for the sake of transparency. “It is good that they will investigate the allegations and get to the truth of it. When they find out the truth, they will take action,” said Katzao last year. “I will just wait for the hearing and see what they have to say. I will then answer what I have to answer to,” said Katzao when contacted by New Era yesterday. Since his suspension, Trustco Group Holdings Limited (Legal Shield’s parent company) placed the current general manager of the group and its subsidiaries, Piet Bekker, as acting MD. Katzao was appointed Managing Director of Legal Shield in May last year. Trustco Group Holdings is a high-growth Namibian company with a core focus on insurance, education and financial services.
