By Kuvee Kangueehi WINDHOEK The Namibian Newspaper Cup 2007 edition will be hosted at Keetmanshoop this year. In a media release the Namibia Football Association (NFA) announced that after it had considered submitted bids from various town councils, the sponsors and the NFA decided on Keetmanshoop. A number of regional executives in Karas, Kavango and Khomas submitted bids while the town councils of Tsumeb and Otjuo indicated their willingness to host the tournament as well. In the media release the NFA said that the association and the sponsors were unanimous that the football facilities in Rundu are currently not in a condition to host a tournament of this magnitude given the number of matches to be played and thus cannot stage the tournament. The association further said that the sponsors could also not consider the bids submitted by the town councils of Outjo and Tsumeb simply on the grounds that they lack the support of the respective regional football authorities. ‘The bid of Khomas was not received timeously,” it said. The NFA and sponsors congratulated the Karas Region for being given the right to host the tournament and wished them well for a successful tournament this year. The association further encouraged the unsuccessful regions to submit bids again next year. “They are reminded to work tirelessly in collaboration with their local government authorities to improve football facilities in their regions. The tournament will take place over the Easter weekend from 6th – 9th April 2007,” said the NFA statement.
