Axe murder accused denied bail

RUNDU – The Rundu Magistrate’s Court last week denied bail to a man, who is accused of murdering his partner.

Christian Kudumo made his first court appearance on a charge of murder, read with the provision of domestic violence, on Friday.

Kudumo is accused of murdering his traditional-wedded wife Augustinus Andline Chicalu with an axe between Monday night and the wee hours of Tuesday at Rundu.

The accused was remanded in custody due to the seriousness of the charges against him and because the court found it is not in the interest of the public for him to be granted bail.

He was, however, advised of his rights to a formal bail application.

Kudumo appeared before magistrate Adelinu Hailonga, while Variety Matamata represented the State in the matter.

The court ordered that the accused be held in custody at Elizabeth Nepemba Correctional Facility – not at the Rundu charge office – for his safety.
