Chicco DeeBok Murema’s journey began in 2008 when he joined the Epango raMongua Konsert group alongside his brothers, Diouf and Okocha Murema and together, they released several albums over the years.

In 2016, Chicco stepped away from the group and made the decision to pursue a solo career and in that same year, he released his debut solo album ‘Hina Story Na Karive’, a title he explained as meaning “I don’t have an issue with anyone.” This project marked a turning point as it earned him a nomination at the 2017 Namibia Annual Music Awards in the Oviritje category.

Reflecting on that period, Chicco has said: “Going solo was not easy, but I wanted to tell my own story in my own way.” His follow up album ‘Crazy Last Born’ was released in 2017, further establishing his individuality, and in 2018, he dropped ‘Beautiful Nonsense’, his last full album to date.

After a period of silence and reflection, Chicco returned to music in 2021, with a series of single releases, allowing him a chance to reconnect with fans and introduce new themes. Among these new releases is ‘Ndji Rongerisa’, a track that features Nyangaz and visuals by NEXT UP. The song touches on a deeply relatable narrative about leaving home in search of new opportunities. “This song is about the reality many young people face, you leave everything you know behind because you believe there is something better out there.”

The song explores the emotional and physical weight that usually accompanies that decision, from hope and ambition to loneliness and struggle. It speaks to sacrifice and resilience, emphasising the importance of perseverance. As Chicco puts it, “No matter how hard it gets, you have to stay focused on your dream and keep going.”

One of his latest achievement is receiving a nomination for best collaboration at the Ongoma Music Awards taking place in Ondangwa on 29 August 2026.
