Police recorded several cases over the weekend, ranging from culpable homicide, reckless driving, murder, robbery, inquests, drug-related offences and other serious crimes across the country.

Here is the brief:

Culpable homicide and reckless driving

Tragic vehicle accidents claimed the lives of seven people over the weekend.

At Onandjaba in the Omusati region on Friday at around 01h00, a 36-year-old man allegedly drove a white Toyota Land Cruiser without a valid driving licence and fatally struck 34-year-old Valombola Victor Natangwe, who was crossing the road. The suspect was arrested.

At Okongo on Saturday at around 03h00, a head-on collision between a Toyota Hilux and a Ford Ranger resulted in the death of 39-year-old Ifo Paulus. The Ford Ranger driver was arrested for driving under the influence.

Near Karibib on Saturday at around 20h00 along the C33 road, four people died after a truck allegedly made a sudden U-turn, causing a Nissan Sentra to collide with it. Two passengers remain in critical condition.

In Karasburg on Sunday at around 05h30 on the B3 road, Antonius Petrus Roos (37) died after being hit by a truck while crossing the road.

Another fatal crash occurred near Rehoboth on Saturday around 13h00 when a driver swerved to avoid a sheep, lost control and overturned, killing Julius Herculus Diedricks (31).

Deaths

In Onesi on Friday, around 07h50, the body of two-year-old Namusha Lydia Ruusa was found in a mahangu field. A 31-year-old woman was detained for questioning.

In Kahenge, a 39-year-old woman, Rosalia Andonyo, was allegedly assaulted with an unknown object on the head and died on Friday night. A 22-year-old man was detained as a person of interest.

Robberies

Two robberies were reported in Otjomuise, Windhoek, on Friday at around 10h00 and 11h00. In one incident, suspects stole two iPhones and N$670 in cash valued at N$24 260. In another case, a vehicle window was smashed and an iPhone valued at N$39 550 was taken. No arrests were made.

Inquests

Several inquest cases were recorded. At Okahao on Friday around 13h35, a 51-year-old man was found hanging in his room. No foul play is suspected.

In Katima Mulilo on Saturday at around 08h00, the body of an unidentified man was discovered floating in the Zambezi River.

At Onayena on Saturday at around 09h30, a three-month-old baby girl was found unresponsive at home. In Karibib on Friday at around 19h54, the body of a 27-year-old man was found hanging from a tree in a riverbed.

Drug-related crimes

Two men were arrested in Windhoek on Friday for possession of cannabis. In Wanaheda at around 10h00, a 28-year-old was found with 20 grams valued at N$1 000. At Aris Farm at around 13h30, a 26-year-old was found with 1 760 grams valued at N$17 000.

Other crimes

Other incidents include attempted murder in Wanaheda at around 23h00 and in Oshakati at around 21h00; stock theft in Oshakati, where cattle valued at N$28 000 were slaughtered; housebreaking in Brakwater, with property valued at N$62 000 stolen; theft under false pretence in Rehoboth involving N$51 460; and a wildlife trafficking case in Oshakati, where two elephant tusks were confiscated.
