Engaging in development empowers – Shimbulu

Oshakati

The mayor of Oshakati, Katrina Shimbulu, has urged the community to partake in the town’s development activities.

She stressed that community participation in developmental activities at the town guarantees the community direct participation in decisions undertaken by council.

Participation of the community in developmental activities would also empower the locals economically,  give them a self-boost to pinpoint problems in their surroundings and provide adequate solutions thereof, she added.

When the council visited the various locations in the town, she appealed to the community for its full participation.

Shimbulu said the council would be visiting the various locations to guide the community in electing their local development committees (LDCs).

“We want to inform our residents that we will be holding public meetings in all our locations to guide the residents on the qualities of people who can be elected to represent them on LDCs,” stated Shimbulu.

Shimbulu advised the community to elect people who are capable of representing them and subsequently addressing their needs.

She also appealed to the community to pull together with the council to further develop the town and address the challenges currently facing the council.

“We were just waiting for our people to finish ploughing, and now that they are done we are going to go to our people and we will start working. Our people should be ready to pull with us in the same spirit of Harambee as is our president’s call,” said Shimbulu.
