Futsal Namibia has announced a 16-player provisional squad set to enter camp in preparation for the inaugural CAF Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), scheduled to take place from 22 to 30 April in Rabat, Morocco.
Namibia’s Futsal Gladiators 5 have been drawn in Group A, where they will face a tough challenge against host nation Morocco and Cameroon.
Yesterday, the Namibia Football Association (NFA) revealed a strong training squad that includes several familiar names such as Ongos Ladies forward Memory Ngonda, Beauties striker Fiola Vliete and Tangi Mulundu of Unam Bokkies.
Futsal Namibia media manager, Greyeno Rusberg expressed satisfaction with the squad, noting that it will be trimmed to 14 players before the team departs for Morocco later this month. “It’s a great squad, and I believe the coach has selected the best players available. The team will be reduced to 14 players before departure,” he said.
This tournament marks a significant milestone for women’s Futsal in Namibia, as it follows the participation of the men’s futsal team, the Brave 5, in their first CAF Futsal Afcon in April 2024, also held in Rabat, Morocco.
