Gobabis hosts rural sports tourney

Home National Gobabis hosts rural sports tourney

Windhoek

The eastern town of Gobabis will this weekend play host to rural sports when the much-anticipated Omatako Dam Brahman Tournament takes centre stage at the Legare Stadium.

Namibia’s renowned farmer Fanuel Tjivau is sponsoring the tournament under his Omatako Dam Brahman brand, with a staggering N$30 000 at stake in prize monies.

The tourney was officially launched in the capital on Monday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Being the first of its kind, the tournament will see 30 football teams and 20 netball teams in action. Officiating at the registration process, Tjivau said it is high time small businesses plough back into their respective communities.
He applauded companies such as MTC and Bidvest Namibia for being big role players in football and sports in general, hence his call on small businesses like his to back the small federations.

One of the striking features of this tournament is the amount of money up for grabs – which means there will be no mercy shown by any of the participating teams in both the football and netball categories.

In the football category, the winning team will take home N$10 000, with the runners-up receiving N$5 000 while the third-placed finisher will pocket N$2 500. In netball, the winner gets N$5 000 while the second-placed finishers take home N$2 500 and third finishers gets N$1 250. Entrance fee is N$20, tickets will also be available at the gate.
The event will also be graced by the presence of two Oviritje giants Diop Katuuo and Rax Kandjoze, who will entertain the crowd their various breath-taking hits at the Epako Community Hall. Tickets to the show will cost N$50.
