Guard commits suicide at Katima

KATIMA MULILO – A 47-year-old man employed as a security guard at Katima Mulilo has allegedly committed suicide, the Namibian Police Force has reported.

His body was found by colleagues on Monday morning with a gunshot wound to the head.

The Namibian Police Force’s spokesperson and head of community policing in Zambezi, Chief Inspector Kisco Sitali, confirmed the incident on Monday.
Sitali said the colleagues notified the police.

“A revolver was found on the ground next to the deceased,” Sitali said.

Further investigations revealed that he had not been at home since Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Kubengwa Likando and his next of kin have been informed of his death. In a separate incident, two male suspects aged between 21 and 22 appeared in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after being charged with housebreaking with intent to steal and theft on Monday.

According to the police, the suspects face charges stemming from an incident that occurred on Sunday around 15h00 at Kabala village on Impalila Island in the Kabbe South constituency.

It is alleged that the suspects gained entry into a complainant’s house through a window using an unknown object. They allegedly stole dishes and two firearms that were kept in an unlocked safe.

During police investigations, the complainant informed officers that he suspected his cattle herder.

The cattle herder was questioned and later admitted to stealing the firearms and hiding them at a friend’s house. The police subsequently recovered a pistol and a shotgun.
