Here is to another year of the same BS in the entertainment and arts industry! Year in year out, same issues that never really get addressed. Or if someone does attempt to address them – case in point, me – no one really gives a flying donkey! Here’s to another year of flying in South Africans to entertain Namibians. Here is to another year of paying South Africans hundreds and thousands of dollars more than their Namibian counterparts.
Here is to another year of flying in South Africans who are at times irrelevant in their own country! Here is to another year of Namibians worshipping all things South African (Mzansibola – look it up. It is a thing – no really, look it up!). As a matter of fact, here is to another year of Namibians worshipping anything but Namibian! Cheers!
Here is to another year of radio stations not giving a damn about Namibian content. Here is to another year of radio stations serving nothing but lip service to the Namibian identity. Here is to another year of radio stations chasing clout.
Here is to another year of radio stations treating their presenters like ‘hond se g*t’. Here is to another year of radio stations overloading presenters with admin work. Here is to another year where listeners complain but never have the guts to do sh*t when radio stations fire presenters for no apparent reason or change the line-up. Cheers!
Here is to another year of the film industry paying actors with cow dung! Here is to another year of actors using their own clothes for productions. Here is to another year of actors not getting royalties.
Here is to another year where “influencers” get the roles and the genuinely talented actors get ignored because they do not have a hundred thousand followers. Here is to another year of starving actors. Cheers!
Here is to another year of Namibian musicians trying so hard to sound South African. Here is to another year of unoriginal dance moves. Here is to another year of a divided entertainment industry. Cheers!
Here is to another year of voice-over artists getting paid brood geld. Here is to another year of voice-over artists getting zero royalties. Cheers!
Here is to another year of agencies opting to award tenders to, again, “influencers” because the real talent and experienced ones do not have a hundred thousand followers. Here is to another year of agencies totally missing the mark with some of their campaigns and activations like opting to choose to activate a brand like Tassenberg at Grove Mall instead of Black Chain.
Here is to another year of sucking up to gatekeepers at agencies. Cheers!
Until the next Loop, we say #GMTM
