Hyundai’s much-anticipated all-new compact crossover sport utility vehicle, the Exter, is now available at local showrooms in three derivatives. With a full digital display, a full spare wheel and impressive fuel economy amongst a host of features, the Exter’s attractive retail price is sure to interest local drivers as a stylish and attractive option.
According to Hyundai sales manager, Darren Diergaardt, the Exter will retail locally from about N$269 000 to approximately N$350 000 for the top of the range. The Exter offers a sleek, glossy black radiator grille and signature H-LED headlights that command attention on the ground, while its sunroof opens up a world of possibilities, with the freedom of endless horizons. It brings a modern, airy touch to the interior, with enough natural light to remind you that when you’re driving the new Exter, the sky really is the limit.
The all-new Exter comes well-equipped with a full arsenal of features and beautiful design elements.
“The Exter’s beautiful, harmonious design lines and excellent proportions immediately draw attention, but it is not only a good looker – it offers a very well-equipped and spacious interior with comfortable room for front and rear occupants,” said Stanley Anderson, sales, operations and commercial director at Hyundai Automotive South Africa.
“The Exter not only meets the needs of modern, young entry-level buyers, but it also sets new standards for the segment for compact crossovers in the market. We are confident that the Hyundai Exter, with its long list of standard convenience and safety features, will exceed the expectations of our customers,” he said.
The all-new Hyundai Exter features a progressive and unique crossover SUV design, showcasing Hyundai’s “Sensuous Sportiness” identity, which is characterised by a modern front, dynamic side, and sporty rear design.
The DNA of Hyundai’s crossover SUV line-up is also evident from the front grille design and the positioning of the daytime running lights (DRLs), with its light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in a signature H-shape above the halogen headlights.
The H-signature design is repeated in the rear lights of the Exter.
Prominent silver skid plates at the front and rear add to the bold and sporty design, and the dynamic side-view is enhanced by 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels (for the Executive and Elite versions). The Premium version also boasts attractive covers with a dynamic design for the 15-inch steel wheels.
Ground clearance is 185 millimetres, which, in combination with the generous amount of rubber on the 15-inch wheels, gives the Exter the ability to tackle excursions on gravel roads without worries.
The Hyundai Exter offers its customers an expansive cabin with superior knee-room and legroom, a relaxed seating position, and ample head and shoulder room to make even a long journey comfortable. Overall, the Hyundai Exter is equipped with advanced technology features that are designed to ensure maximum convenience and utility.
In front of the driver is an advanced digital instrument cluster with various features, such as a 4.2-inch colour thin film transistor multi-information display and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
A centre-mounted infotainment system with an eight-inch high-definition screen and smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard across the range. The screen also displays the rear-view parking camera’s image in the executive and elite versions.
The Hyundai Exter comes with a strong body structure with extensive application of advanced high-strength steel, adding high durability and rigidity, and ensuring low noise vibration and harshness levels that provide a safe driving experience for all occupants.
The Hyundai Exter comes equipped with a very fuel-efficient 1.2-litre Kappa 4-cylinder petrol engine that offers refinement and smooth acceleration. Maximum power output is 61 kilowatts at 6 000 rotations per minute (r/min). It reaches a peak torque output of 114 Newton-meters (Nm) at 4 000 r/min. The top speed of all variants was measured at 165 kilometres (km) per hour.
The Exter delivers a well-balanced ride and handling that matches the demands of both urban and out-of-town motoring. Fuel consumption of 5.7 litres per 100km was recorded for the manual transmission variants, and 5.9 litres per 100km for the Exter AMT derivatives.
The Hyundai Exter delivers a high level of driving confidence with an optimally- tuned suspension setup featuring McPherson Struts with coil springs in the front, and a coupled torsion beam axle in the rear.
