Kambo  dreams  of economic  freedom … eyes government-backed youth fund

Meet David Kambo, an enthusiastic young entrepreneur who embarked on getting his hands on anything that has to do with him reaching “financial freedom”.

Kambo chose to embrace a vital responsibility to drive Namibia’s economic emancipation as a 24-year-old.

“I realised I wanted to become an entrepreneur when I saw how limited opportunities were for young people around me. I understood early that if I wanted financial freedom and impact, I had to build something of my own,” Kambo said. The young entrepreneur understood the economic limitations as well as the scarcity of resources; hence, his drive to create an income for himself and his family. Kambo started building his skills and business experience from the young age of 18 years old, venturing into different areas of business, from offering “pawning services, buying and selling valuable goods, carwash and cleaning chemical manufacturing, and transportation services, as well as construction and maintenance services.” He chose to get into industries that have to do with solving daily problems in the community. He emphasised, “People need financial assistance, cleaning products, transportation, and construction services. These are essential sectors with consistent demand.”

Kambo, who hails from the Tobias Hainyeko constituency in Khomas, continues to look for ways on how he can expand and grow his business.

Among others, he tried applying for the government’s Youth Development Fund. Though his past attempts have not yielded any positive result yet, Kambo will never give up trying.

“I applied because I want to scale my operations, purchase vehicles for logistics, and increase production capacity. The fund represents an opportunity to grow sustainably,” he said.

He motivated his position on applying for the Youth Development Fund, saying that government support plays a crucial role in youth-driven initiatives.

“Government support is critical. Youth entrepreneurship reduces unemployment and stimulates economic growth. When government invests in youth, it invests in the country’s future,” he added.
