WINDHOEK – Commissioner Willem Steenkamp’s two-year reign at the helm of the NamPol Khomas Regional Police Command came to an end on Friday, marking the official handover of power to Commissioner Johanna Ngondo.
Effective 01 November 2025, Ngondo is the first female to serve in the commander position in Khomas. Steenkamp will now serve as advisor in the Office of the Inspector General, a position previously held by his successor.
Ngondo is familiar with her current role, having previously served as the first female regional commander for the Kavango East region for 10 years before being appointed as special advisor in the Office of the Inspector General.
During the official handover event at the Khomas Regional Council, Major General Anne-Marie Nainda, Deputy Inspector-General for Administration of the Namibian Police Force, expressed her gratitude to Commissioner Steenkamp for his steadfast leadership and command of the region.Despite the ongoing crime rate in Khomas, Nainda noted that this is the environment in which Steenkamp provided the necessary leadership to ensure that crime levels in the region remained manageable.
“Commissioner Steenkamp, your leadership, dedication and sterling commitment to the safety of the Khomas Region and the entire Namibian nation have made a lasting impact. Under your stewardship, the Khomas Region saw significant progress,” she remarked.
Nainda urged Ngondo to build on the successes of her predecessors while remaining attentive to the changing security needs of the region, emphasising that the trust placed in her comes not only from the NamPol senior management, but also from the citizens of the region.Deputy Chief and Head of Operations at the Windhoek City Police, Eliaser Iyambo stated that Steenkamp’s leadership has enhanced the security cluster of Khomas inter-agency relations and established a standard they are committed to maintaining. He emphasised the collaboration between the Namibian Police Force and the Windhoek City Police Service, noting that the two will continue to strengthen their partnership.
“Together, we will build on the solid foundation that has already been laid and continue to ensure that our citizens feel safe and confident in our collective efforts,” he noted.
