By William Mbangula Oshakati Residents of Okatjali constituency became the beneficiaries of N$22ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 400 donated by Kobi Alexander Enterprises for the construction of latrines. Handing over a cheque to Councillor Joseph Mupetami of Okatjali, Hanna Alexander said the assistance came about as a result of a plea from Oshana Regional Council to help address the dire need of latrines at schools and kindergartens. Alexander said: “When we learnt that school-going children have to relieve themselves in the bush due to the need for toilets, we could not do otherwise but to lend a helping hand. My husband, Kobi, has however requested me to convey his appreciation for being afforded the opportunity to make a contribution towards improving the basic living conditions of the children who will benefit from the initiative of the Oshana Regional Council.” The occasion was attended by members of the Oshana Management Committee, Oshana Chief Regional Officer, John Kandombo; the Director of Education in Oshana, Dutte Shinyemba; personnel from the Directorate of Planning in the region, and others. Governor of Oshana, Clemens Kashuupulwa, said the construction of pit latrines at Onamayongo Primary School and kindergartens in the Okatjali constituency will help improve the existing sanitation in the area. This will also motivate other private sector members and individuals to follow suit. Again, it will encourage home-owners to construct similar pit latrines, thereby leading to a reduction of communicable diseases such as diarrhoea, lintworm, polio and cholera. Noted the Governor: “This donation in cash to construct pit latrines in the remote areas is in line with the Government Policy of Rural Development that is currently top on its agenda. ‘I therefore call upon other non-governmental organizations and individuals to follow the shining example of Kobi Alexander Enterprises.”
