Theatre-lovers can look forward to the staging of the tragicomedy “The Bigamist” written and directed by Namibia’s stalwart theatre playwright, Frederick B. Philander.
This particular tragicomedy explores inter-relationships in modern-day Namibia between an ordinary Baster man, who is married to a caring Oshiwambo-speaking woman, after divorcing his immoral Baster wife of years.
As Fate would have it this particular day in the family’s life, a catastrophic external event unfolds with far-reaching consequences to the whole clan.
The play particularly explores inter-cultural marriage and child abuse, two core social issues Namibian society has been grappling with for ages. The role and competency levels of the Namibian police in such cases are also featured as vital components and dramatic elements of the work.
The Bigamist will be staged on April 20 & 21 at NTN Backstage. Doors open at 19h00 and the show starts at 20h00. Tickets will be available at the NTN Box Office in John Meinert Street as from Tuesday, April 10 at N$30 or, alternatively, at the door at N$40.
This play forms part of The National Theatre of Namibia’s Theatre Zone Project and is Philander’s 18th contemporary stage work.
