WINDHOEK – The construction of the N$8 million tarred road stretching some 200 kilometres linking Liselo to Linyanti, Kongola and Singalamwe is almost complete.

The road from Liselo to Singalamwe is being constructed through a joint venture of Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC) and the Roads Contractor Company (RCC).

It will be completed by end of November 2014.

According to Mumba Zitumbikwa the project manager, the construction currently stands at over 80 percent and he assured the public that the road would be ready by the start of the festive season.

The reconstruction of the tarred road that started in 2012 was expected to be completed by end of this month but was deferred to November, after the initial tar layer was removed due to its substandard condition. The road was initially designed to carry low-volume traffic.

However the delay was attributed to the lack of transportation of the surfacing stones from Zambia.

“We were challenged with the haulage of surfacing stones but now the matter has been resolved after the regional governor was engaged in talks with his Zambian counterpart. Rainfall at the beginning of the year was also another obstacle that disturbed the progress and the demining of some of the road sections that were believed still to have unexploded ordinances and ammunition,” said Zitumbikwa
