Home Archived Mahnke to judge at Africa Film Festival

WINDHOEK-Actor and Chairperson of the Namibian Board of AfricAvenir, HansChristian Mahnke has been chosen as one of the judges in the Documentary Film Competition Category at the third edition of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF).

The competition under the theme  Africa Unites, aims to celebrate creative excellence in the African cinema by recognising African filmmakers. Mahnke is one of the four members of this Jury who will be judging the overall winner for the Best Film and Best Nigerian film in all competitions such as the features, shorts and documentaries and will be screening 15 to 20 films. “It is an honour and I am very happy because this proves that my work here is being respected and this is a confirmation of our good work. This will also be an opportunity for me to meet Nollywood’s film makers, actors, etc. because I’ve never been in Nigeria. I think I will learn a lot from their industry in terms of marketing and high quality African cinema, which I can bring home and see what I can do to improve our industry,” said Mahnke.

AFRIFF is a world class showcase of African film-making, with participation from both local and international filmmakers, celebrities, actors, directors, film buyers, distributors, visual artists, film students, enthusiasts, equipment manufacturers and the press.  The festival features rich and diverse programme such as movies from all over the world in several genres, with four category awards open for competition.  The festival is set to take place in Calabar, Nigeria from November 10-17.
