Man accused of girlfriend’s murder

A 40-year-old man, alleged to have been romantically involved with the woman discovered dead in her home in Otjomuise’s Extension 2 last Monday, made his first appearance in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The accused, Geoffrey Jeff Kasume, a Kenyan national, was formally charged with a count of murder.

The charge reads that on or about 7 February 2026, he unlawfully and intentionally killed Regina Nambashu Kondombolo (33).

The two were in a domestic relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend, the charge reads further.

The State, represented by public prosecutor Tatelo Cuthbert Lusepani, opposed bail on the grounds that investigations are at a premature stage and thus fear interference with investigations and public interest.

Lusepani added that the accused may pose as a flight risk due to the allegations that he is a Kenyan national and that the State needed time to investigate his status or stay in the country.

The State also requested that the accused remain at the Windhoek Correctional Facility for his own safety.

Milton Engelbrecht, representing Kasume, requested that the Namibian Police should contact him first before they engage with the accused and that they should not engage with Kasume without his permission.

The matter was then postponed to 24 April 2026 for further investigations.

It is reported that before his appearance in court, Kasume, in the company of the landlord, broke the door of the deceased’s house on 09 February 2026.

It is alleged they did so after getting no response from inside the deceased’s house.

There is no report on the reason as to why they went to the deceased’s house looking for her, only that the accused allegedly went to get the landlord in the evening after being there earlier in the morning.

A source stated that the accused was allegedly supposed to get a second count of violating a dead body.

After breaking the door, the accused allegedly stormed into the house and subsequently began dressing the deceased up, touching her hair, and even attempting to resuscitate her.

The allegation is that he was attempting to tamper with evidence of the DNA, by making it appear that, should the investigators find his DNA at the scene or the deceased’s body, it happened when he was just touching her when she was already dead.

This was, allegedly, an attempt by the accused to escape or evade justice if he is the murderer.

A close friend of the deceased, speaking on the matter, revealed that Kasume and the deceased were indeed in a relationship, but it ended in early 2024.

She stated there was no communication between the two since breaking up, unless maybe from the accused’s side.

She stated that the deceased is survived by two siblings.

She described Kondombolo as an ambitious person who wanted to be successful and said that before her death, she had an ‘order-with-me’ small business.
