Metropolitan schools rugby league finals today!

Home Archived Metropolitan schools rugby league finals today!

WINDHOEK – The Metropolitan Rugby Board’s Trophy League finals kick off today at the Hage Geingob Stadium with 20 teams competing for the coveted title in their respective age categories.

This year marks 22 years of sponsorship for the school’s rugby league by Metropolitan, with a massive injection of N$120 000. The 3-month league started in May and attracted over 50 schools from 9 regions in 10 different age categories.

“As a partner in the development of sport, Metropolitan continues to play an integral part in meeting the needs of its communities by empowering youth through skills development and promoting a culture of sportsmanship,” said Talitha Jario of Metropolitan Namibia. The company’s long-standing partnership with the Namibia Secondary Schools’ Rugby Association (NASSRA) is designed to ensure that talented athletes are moulded and adequately prepared to compete at international platforms.

“We are confident the continued commitment of schools, athletes and the technical staff towards skills development will reposition Namibia on the international map as a leader in rugby at grassroots to senior levels,” said Jario.

Herman Rust, Secretary of NASSRA, said they are very proud that the association has made great achievements in extending rugby to all corners of the country, while there has been an increase in the volume of participation. “We’ve also seen a tremendous improvement in the skills of many athletes, and schools that previously failed to reach the finals are now competing with the most seasoned athletes in the league,” he said.
