Nam students stranded in Zambia

RUNDU – The National African Students’ Association (Nasa) has sounded the alarm over the dire situation facing Namibian government-sponsored health students in Zambia, calling for immediate ministerial intervention to rescue those allegedly stranded due to unpaid scholarship funds.

In a statement, Nasa secretary for academics, sports, arts and culture, Abel Miguel, said the association expressed a “deep concern and strong dissatisfaction” regarding the prolonged delays in disbursements. The funding crisis has reportedly left future medical professionals in a “vulnerable” state, with many unable to secure basic meals, pay for accommodation, or cover tuition-related costs.

“These continued delays have placed our students in extremely vulnerable situations financially, academically and psychologically,” Miguel stated.

In response, Walters Kamaya, the health ministry spokesperson, said they are preparing a statement on the issue.  “We are working on a press release to clear the air once and for all,” Kamaya said yesterday.
