Namibians to acquire oil and gas skills in Angola

The Petroleum Training and Education Fund (PetroFund) has sent 13 Namibians to Angola for training in vital oil and gas vocational skills.

These trainees already have level three welding, as well as fitting and turning qualifications.

They departed for Angola on Sunday, 2 June 2024.

The training is being offered through a joint collaboration with Subsea7, an international oil and gas service company and Sonamet, an Angolan oil and gas training centre, specialising in training certified oil and gas fabrication, as well as installation skills.

The Namibian candidates were selected from PetroFund’s oil and gas database.

Thy were interviewed by experts from Sonamet and PetroFund, and underwent Oil and Gas United Kingdom (OGUK) medical clearance in Walvis Bay.

This initiative is a significant step forward in equipping Namibians with valuable skills and knowledge that they will bring back to benefit the country’s growing energy sector. To celebrate this milestone, PetroFund hosted a send-off event for the trainees on Friday, 31 May 2024 in Windhoek.

We are thrilled to send our trainees to Angola for this invaluable training opportunity.

The skills they will acquire will be instrumental in advancing Namibia’s energy sector, and we look forward to their contributions upon their return,” PetroFund stated.
