The president, Derek Wright and the Executive Manager, Sakkie Coetzee of the Namibia Agricultural Union, visited Inge Zaamwani, Advisor to President Geingob with regard to the private sector last week. Zaamwani was accompanied by Penny Akwenye, former Executive Manager of the Millennium Challenge Account.

The aim of the visit was to inform Zaamwani about the challenges the agricultural sector is facing. Besides the drought, the dragging of the settlement of the Small Stock Marketing Scheme, as well as the future business structure of Meatco were discussed. The maintenance of the veterinary cordon fence has also been identified as a challenge, as well as the critical situation of the dairy sector.

On this forum the NAU also made themselves available as partner to government for the implementation of policies and strategies to the advantage of the agricultural sector.

Zaamwani indicated that President Geingob will in due course meet with the commercial farmers.
