The Namibian Defence Force’s 26 Motorised Infantry Brigade (26 Mot Inf Bde) defeated their Zambian counterparts in all competitions during the bilateral sporting engagements event at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex in the Zambezi region.
The two military formations based along the shared borders participated in various sporting codes such as football, netball, volleyball, pool table and chess.
In a press release seen by the New Era Sport, the games were not merely about winning but formed part of the broader framework of Namibia-Zambia Defence Forces bilateral relations.
They were aimed at fostering closer ties and enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
In the football category, 26 Mot Inf Bde stunned Zambia Western Formation by a 3-0 scoreline.
In netball, Zambia suffered a heavy defeat after 26 Mot Inf Bde scored 54 goals against five to win the netball competition.
Zambia Western Formation was crushed 3-0 by Namibia’s 26 Mot Inf Bde in the volleyball competition. The Namibian team also clinched victory in pool table competition when they stunned their Zambian counterparts 3-0.
In the chess competition, the 26 Mot Inf Bde showed power and crushed Zambia by 8-0 scoreline. Speaking at the event, Brigadier General Paulus Iipinge, the general officer commanding the 26 Motorised Infantry Brigade, highlighted the significance of such exchanges.
“This bilateral games between our two countries are not simply a celebration of sport but a testament to the enduring friendship, mutual respect and shared aspirations that unite people across borders,” he said.
Iipinge added that the games underscore the importance of embracing diverse cultures.
He noted that sport serves as a universal language that transcends boundaries, cultures and differences, instilling values of discipline, teamwork and perseverance while nurturing camaraderie and goodwill among nations.
