‘New Beginnings’ at National Art Gallery

A collection of work from the College of the Arts students opened at the National Art Gallery of Namibia in the capital yesterday under the theme ‘New Beginnings’.

This exhibition by 2022 graduates features a landscape of divergent mediums and techniques, showcasing the graduate students’ exploration of material use and themes.

It also marks the 15th year of celebrating research and creative schooling at the College of the Arts (COTA). As an essential and exciting part of graduate education, the exhibition encourages professional development by challenging graduate students and alumni to present their work in a systematic and comprehensive manner.

The ‘New Beginnings’ group presentation is a follow-up platform to observe whether these trained artists can now apply the knowledge and skills they acquired during their academic exertion and transform it into different creative outlets.

“Additionally, this display acts as an outlet for their artistic careers, offering graduate students the opportunity to not only be taken up into the existing artist community but to realistically see and experience it and actively ensue this path with ambition and commitment,” reads a statement by the National Art Gallery of Namibia.

It is also an opportunity for graduate students to share their academic and creative accomplishments, emphasising the breadth of quality research and creative endeavour at COTA.

The exhibition closes on 05 November 2022.
