Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate said the construction of the Otjombinde Sports Field in Tallismanus is part of the government decentralisation policy.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday, Nganate said the launch formed part of the national effort to bring development closer to the communities.
“Our government’s commitment to build sports facilities is aimed at ensuring that young people across regions have access to proper sporting facilities, which is essential for talent development, entertainment and discipline,” he said. He added that the sports field will provide an important platform for sporting activities, youth engagement and community gatherings.
Nganate emphasised that sports play a vital role in promoting healthy lifestyles, building discipline, encouraging teamwork and strengthening social cohesion within communities.
The governor added that opportunities will exist across various areas, including in fencing, welding, borehole drilling, electrical works, general construction and related services.
“Projects such as this must benefit the communities in which they are implemented. Thus, we are encouraging our local people to grab these opportunities and participate actively in the development taking place in their region,” he said.
He urged all technical partners involved to execute the project with efficiency, integrity and the highest standards of workmanship.
“This facility must stand as a lasting asset for this community, as a symbol of hope,” he said, urging the Tallismanus people, especially the youth, to take ownership of the facility once it is completed.
Otjombinde constituency councillor Wenzel Kavaka said the Otjombinde sports facility promised to be more than just a venue for sports as it will serve as a hub for engagement, inclusivity and personal development.
Kavaka added that the facility will not only enhance the community’s infrastructure but will also inspire future generations to pursue healthy lifestyles, promote teamwork and develop their talents.
“It is our hope that this place will ignite passion and foster a sense of belonging among all who walk through its doors,” he said.
The sports facility will accommodate a football pitch, netball, volleyball and basketball courts, amongst others. – Nampa
