Saints, Old Boys share spoils

Action in the Namibia Indoor Hockey League continued last weekend at the Wanderers Sports Grounds and the MTC Dome, with teams competing across the premier, reserve and development divisions.

The highlight of the men’s premier league was a thrilling 5-5 draw between Saints 1 and Windhoek Old Boys (WOB).

Saints captain Abraham Graham expressed disappointment with the result, especially after his side had controlled most of the match.

According to Graham, Saints were leading for most of the game but lost momentum in the closing stages.

“In the last three minutes, we let ourselves down with a bit of discipline. We went a man down, and Old Boys did well to fight back from two goals down. It was a good match, quite intense, but it’s always a good contest against Old Boys,” Graham said.

Despite the setback, Graham remained optimistic about the team’s outlook for the coming matches.

“We will keep our heads up and come back next week with renewed spirits,” he added. Windhoek Old Boys captain Ernest Jacobs praised his team’s determination after coming from behind to secure the draw. “The game was rough and tough as expected, because Saints are not number one for no reason. It was a great game, and we are happy that we managed to fight back,” Jacobs said.

In other men’s premier league results, Saints 2 beat Wanderers with a narrow 1-0 victory, while Deutsche Turn- und Sportverein (DTS) suffered an 8-3 defeat against the School of Excellence Hockey Club (SOEHC). In the women’s Premier League, defending champions Saints delivered a dominant performance, thrashing Wanderers 12-1 in a one-sided encounter. Windhoek Old Boys also secured a convincing 4-1 victory over DTS.

The league continues this weekend, with teams eager to strengthen their positions in the log standings. hnalupe@nepc.com.na
