ONGWEDIVA – An attempt to learn to drive ended badly on Monday when a security guard stationed at Bennies Entertainment Park overturned a car he allegedly stole.

The vehicle was parked when the security guard reportedly stole it and got into an accident early on Monday morning.
A 21-year-old suspect was arrested by the police in Ongwediva and is expected to appear in court for vehicle theft.
Police Public Relations Officer in Oshana Region Inspector Petrus Iimbili, said the suspect allegedly took the keys of a white Nissan NP200 and drove towards the direction of Ondangwa.

But, the car allegedly overturned during the excursion between Eluwa Special School and the University of Namibia’s Hifikepunye Pohamba Campus.

The suspect is employed by Amon Security and is a resident of Ongwediva’s New Reception.
“The key was taken from the duty room which was under the control of the suspect as he was on duty at the time of the alleged incident,” Iimbili said.

Those in the know claim the suspect said he was attempting to learn how to drive when the accident happened.
It is further alleged he was speeding and when he approached a sharp curve, he lost control and the vehicle overturned.
In an attempt to bring the car to a standstill, the suspect allegedly pulled the handbrake, and the car instead
overturned.
