SWAKOPMUND – Erongo governor Neville Andre has emphasised the critical role of public participation in the ongoing review of the regional roads master plan held in Swakopmund this week.

Addressing a diverse audience, which included the Roads Authority team, regional and local authority councillors, members of the Erongo regional roads board and various stakeholders, the governor underscored the importance of involving the community in planning processes that directly impact their livelihoods.

“Roads are the lifelines that connect our people, facilitate trade, and enable access to essential services,” Andre stated.

He noted the indispensable role that road infrastructure plays in supporting key sectors such as agriculture, tourism and mining.

He acknowledged that the success of the road master plan hinges not only on technical expertise, but also on the active involvement of the communities which rely on these networks daily.

The review of the roads master plan, which serves as a strategic blueprint for the sustainable development and management of the region’s road network, aims to assess the progress made thus far, identify ongoing challenges, and refine approaches to meet future demands.

Andre also called for continued collaboration and innovation among all stakeholders.

He stressed that public input is crucial for creating a road network that is resilient, inclusive and capable of supporting the region’s aspirations for growth and prosperity.

“The participation of our citizens in this review process is not just welcomed. It is essential,” he said.

He praised the dedication of those involved in the initiative, and urged for a collective effort to overcome the challenges ahead.

As the Erongo region continues to grow, the governor’s remarks highlight the importance of ensuring that infrastructure development is guided by the needs and voices of its people, paving the way for a more connected and prosperous future for all.

The revision of the regional roads’ master plan for Otjozondjupa, Kunene and Omaheke was set to take place on 20, 22 and 28 August 2024, respectively.
