Gladice Pickering was sworn in as an Acting Judge of the High Court on Monday during a ceremony officiated by Deputy Chief Justice Petrus Damaseb.
Pickering will serve on the High Court bench from 16 March 2026 until 30 June 2026, according to a statement issued by the Judiciary.
Her appointment results in a temporary leadership change at the Office of the Prime Minister, where she has been serving as executive director since April 2025.
Shivute Indongo has been appointed as acting executive director with accounting powers for a period of three months. Indongo currently serves as executive director in the private office of the Prime Minister.
This was confirmed by the Office of the Prime Minister’s spokesperson Maximus Halwoodi in an interview with Nampa.
Pickering is an admitted legal practitioner of the High Court of Namibia and previously served as a magistrate for seven years from 1999 to 2006.
She also served as executive director in the ministry of justice. She further participated in the Aspirant Judges Programme.
“This appointment marks Pickering’s first tenure on the High Court bench. The Judicial Service Commission extends its congratulations to all the appointees and wishes them well in the execution of their onerous task of delivering justice for all,” the statement reads.
The judiciary also announced the appointment of retired judge Marlene Tommasi as an Acting Judge from 1 April 2026 to 30 June 2026. -Nampa
