To enhance public safety, the Namibian Police Force will soon embark on a six-month national crime prevention operation.
Namibia Police Force Major General Elias Mutota said the police, together with Windhoek City Police and other law enforcement agencies, will take to the streets to curb crime across the city. The operation will also be conducted nationwide.
“We are urged to do more operations. We have a mandate to protect the nation, and we are going to start with a national crime prevention operation that will last for six months,” he said.
He added that the operation will be rolled out nationwide, with the best-performing group set to receive a trophy.
“Her Excellency, Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah, the President of Namibia, thanked us for the great job we have been doing to keep Windhoek and the entire nation safe, but we have been asked to do more. I want commanders to deploy police officers to all crime hotspots,” Mutota said.
Mutota made the announcement on Friday during a scheduled parade at Patrick Iyambo College, which was subsequently canceled due to bad weather.
The parade has now been rescheduled for this Tuesday at 10:00 at the same location.
