WINDHOEK – The Central Tennis Club B and C teams turned the tables at the weekend’s Interclub Tennis League matches after beating CTC-OTB and the UNAM Tennis team in both the singles and doubles games.

With this win, CTC-C acquired 14 points as opposed to UNAM’s 6 points while CTC-B overcame CTC-OTB by 18 points to two.

The CTC C team comprised of Walter Kamukono, Lawrence Kahindi, Mickey Alemu and Christopher Engelhardt while their UNAM counterparts were Prince Loemba, Ronaldo Urirab, Adrian Coetze and Likhwa Kupe.

The CTC-B team was made up of Socrates Muyambo, Nqobiliziwe Moyo, Samson Kaulinge and Kuda Chani while OTB consisted of Peter Brinkman, Greg Chase, Robert Riethmueller and Dirk Stein.

Peter Brinkmann of CTC-OTB won 2 points for his team when his opponent Socrates Muyambo retired due to exhaustion after winning the first match 6:2 and loosing the second 3:6. In the other singles match CTC’s ‘B’ Moyo dominated Greg Chase 6:0, 6:1.

CTC ‘B’ also took all three doubles matches against CTC ‘OTB’. Samson Kaulinge and Kuda Chani beat Robert Riethmueller and team mate Dirk Stein 6:1, 6:2. The latter also lost 1:6, 1:6 against Muyambo and Moyo Nogobilize. In the third doubles encounter the Kaulinge/Chani combination prevailed over OTB’s Brinkmann/Chase 6:3, 7:5.

The CTC ‘C’ team put up a brave performance against UNAM. Walter Kamukono defeated Prince Loemba 6:3, 6:2 whereas Lawrence Kahindi lost to Ronaldo Uriab 1:6, 3:6. The CTC ‘C’ doubles team of CTC club champion Minichel Alemu and former German top 100 professional player Christopher Engelhardt was too strong for Adrian Coetzee and Likhwa Khupe beating them in a thrilling match 7:6, 6:3.

Alemu and Engelhardt went on to win their second doubles match against UNAM’s Prince Loemba and Ronaldo Uriab 6:1, 6:3. UNAM was able to fight back and win the third doubles match when Coetzee/Khupe beat Lawrence Kahindi and partner Ronaldo Uriab 6:3, 6:3.

In the third encounter played at the NAMPOL tennis club, the visiting SKW team made up of Clifford Ngunowando, Norman Bastian, Andre Kuschke, Allesandro XY overran the home team comprising Nick Steven, Thomas Weber, Daan Nel and Jack Dempsey by 14 to six points.
Nick Steven lost his singles match against Clifford Ngunowando 0:6, 3:6 while Thomas Weber was beaten by Andre Kuschke 4:6, 1:6. The NAMPOL veterans Daan Nel and Jack Dempsey, however, were able to save some points for their club.

They won 6:2, 0:6 and 10:6 against Clifford Ngunowando and his partner Andre Kuschke and defeated Allessandro/Norman Bastiaans 7:5, 6:1. Allessandro/Bastians in return defeated the Steven/Weber combination 6:3, 2:6, and 10:6 in the third doubles match.
