Fingers crossed for Vicky Lashes' nomination

Pricilla Mukokobi

In the race for nomination for the upcoming prestigious Shining Star African Awards, Vicky Lashes Beauty Spa from Namibia is throwing its hat in the ring.

The deadline for nominations is 3 June, and this Windhoek-based spa is hoping to be among the 5 to 8 nominees in their category.

Spa owner Victoria Mupupa expressed excitement about the awards, saying being nominated will be a dream come true for her and her team.

“We have worked really hard to make Vicky Lashes Beauty Spa a top-notch salon that provides exceptional services to our clients. Being nominated for this award will be a testament to our commitment to excellence and our dedication to our clients,” she told VIBEZ!

Mupupa noted that in every business, honesty and respect play a big role, especially if it is money-making and growth-oriented – that is why “I always try and give the best to my clients and be honest with it. I think it could help with the nominations”.

The spa has gained a reputation for providing exceptional beauty and wellness services, including lash extensions, nails and micro-blading – all of which are carried out by highly trained professionals, and they also give training for the services they provide.

Mupupa is a skilled aesthetician with a passion for helping her clients look and feel their best.

She founded the spa in 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when sitting at home doing nothing was not an option for her.

“Like any other business, we all face different challenges. Space and rental costs, especially at the right location, are too high – and in the beauty industry, people always compare who is good and who has the love to do it. Plus, this industry is fully loaded because everyone is doing some business here and there. To overcome this, you need the love and patience you put in. When you make your clients happy, more clients come,” she noted.

She wishes to build her empire and brand, create more jobs and train more people to be self-employed and independent, especially in African countries.

Mupupa advised upcoming entrepreneurs that starting a business is never easy; “all that is needed is patience and honesty about the services you render to your clients”.

“In this business, there is always a fall, so you pick yourself up; it doesn’t matter how many times you fall. Have a mentor as well who just holds your hand when in need,” she advised.

With nominations still open, it remains to be seen whether Vicky Lashes Beauty Spa will be selected as a nominee.

However, the spa is excited about the opportunity to potentially be recognised for their hard work and dedication to providing high-quality beauty and wellness services.

If Vicky Lashes Beauty Spa is nominated, they will compete against other outstanding businesses in their category.

Voting will take place from 6-16 July via the awards organisation’s website, and the public will have the opportunity to cast their votes for their favourite nominee.

The Shining Stars Africa Awards is the people’s choice award that celebrates excellence in African entertainment. It is a unique platform to recognise and honour outstanding individuals who have made an impact on the continent through their talent, hard work and dedication.

This year marks the first edition of this awards ceremony to be hosted in South Africa – a country with a rich cultural heritage and vibrant entertainment industry.

The awards will shine a spotlight on some of Africa’s most talented stars from across different industries, such as music, film and television, giving them due recognition for their accomplishments.
