Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) regional chairperson Fritz Kaufman has vowed to recall IPC councillors in the City of Windhoek who engage in wasteful expenditure.
He said he has seen city councillors going on overseas trips, spending N$80 000 in subsistence and travel allowance (S&T) while those living in informal settlements lacked access to even the most essentials.
“I have given direct instruction to my councillors that if I find you out there spending city money unnecessarily, you will be recalled,” Kaufman said when he introduced Moses Mwandingi, who will stand as a candidate in the Moses //Garoeb constituency candidate.
Kaufman said city councillors should know it is about the people – not about them.
He said it is not a secret that the City of Windhoek is in serious financial trouble, but still, some councillors travel on meaningless trips, such as to Dubai, just to get thousands in S&T. Moses for Moses //Garoeb constituency
Mwandingi yesterday said if elected, he will donate half of his salary to the community.
“I have been living here for the last 15 years. I know the suffering of my people. If elected, I will share half of my salary with the community. We will use the money for projects,” he said.
He also promised to uplift his community’s livelihood by constantly bringing the issues to the regional council. Residents of the Moses //Garoëb constituency will go to the polls on 6 January next year to elect a new regional councillor.
The by-election became necessary, following the recent death of the constituency’s councillor, Aili Venonya. Mwandingi will be contesting against a Swapo candidate as well as two independent candidates. The constituency has 41 206 registered voters.
