Man stabs woman to death…injures another

WALVIS BAY- A man allegedly killed a woman and severely injured his sister-in-law on Sunday evening at Rooibank, situated about 60 kilometres from Walvis Bay.

The deceased has been identified as Maria Hester van Zyl.

New Era understands that the suspect and his victims were seen at a guesthouse in the area earlier that day but left after several drinks.

According to the police, an argument ensued and the suspect was told to pack his belongings and leave the house they all shared.

He allegedly became agitated and viciously attacked the women with a sharp object.  According to Inspector Ileni Shapumba, the suspect allegedly left and the two women managed to lock themselves inside the house.

“The suspect, however, returned with the sharp object hidden under his clothes and broke the locked door to gain entry,” Shapumba said.

The suspect once again attacked the two women.

“He stabbed his sister-in-law (his late brother’s wife) on her right forearm and the now-deceased woman in the chest and in the hand when she tried to push him out of the room,” Shapumba explained.

He said Van Zyl succumbed to her injuries at the scene while the second victim was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

She will be transferred to Windhoek for further treatment.

The suspect was arrested and will appear today in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court.
