Model and beauty queen Innocentia Mukubi will use her title as the Miss Teen Eco-Tourism first runner-up to promote Namibian tourism and expose the vast potential the country has to offer due to the breathtaking mix of wildlife, spectacular scenery, and diverse cultures.

Mukubi (17) was recently crowned as the first runner-up/ambassador of the Miss Teen Eco-Tourism World, which took place in Durban, South Africa from 10-16 October 2022.

She told Youth Corner that Namibian tourism is also the fastest-growing economic sector in Namibia and employs many, especially from rural areas, making this sector an important employer that helps reduce rural poverty.

“In addition, Namibia’s tourism sector is also one of the most competitive sectors in the world.

Natural attractions include the Namib Desert, Fish River Canyon, Grand Canyon, the world-famous dunes at Sossusvlei, the Skeleton Coast with its extraordinary landscapes and Etosha National Park,” she highlighted.

Mukubi has held more than 10 titles since she started her career in 2019 and has taken part in pageants, including the recent Miss Teen Eco-Tourism World. The finale was held on 15 October 2022 when she was crowned as the first runner-up/ambassador.

“I started modelling as a hobby not thinking it would take me very far and now I am fully immersed in the craft,” she added.

Passionate about helping others and about saving the environment, Mukubi is the co-founder of recycling and reselling which aims at promoting entrepreneurship among school-going students while protecting the environment. She also has another initiative ‘Restore Her Dignity’ which is for the sole purpose of donating sanitary products to less fortunate girls in Namibia.

“This year, we donated 2 000 pads to 190 schoolgirls from over 30 schools in Windhoek.”

The pageant also aims to create ambassadors for important themes such as gender-based violence against women and children, socio-economic development and tourism.

Her other hobbies include singing and dancing, with her motivation being that she can live every day with purpose while making a difference in someone else’s life.
