The third edition of the Miss Plus Size is scheduled to take place at the Khomas Regional Council hall this Saturday.

According to the organisers, the event aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and, therefore, this year the pageant will be hosted under the theme “Stop smoking, eat healthy food”.
The first Miss Plus Size pageant was hosted in Tambov, Russia, and attracted beauties from various European countries, with the second event hosted at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre in 2016 and won by Esther Esmie Joshua.

The founder of the pageant, Dr Margaret Shivolo, also known as Margo Rusky in the modelling circles, told New Era on Saturday that they have taken a different theme for this year’s pageant in order to promote a healthy lifestyle, especially for plus-sized women.

“Apart from promoting a healthy lifestyle for them, we want to empower women at large for them to exercise regularly and eat healthy food,” said Margo Rusky.
Up to 10 plus-sized women will vie for the title on Saturday, where other entertainment activities would be on offer.

Margo Rusky said the finalists would be walking in bikinis, traditional wear and evening wear. The winner of this year’s event will be the ambassador for the ‘Stop Smoking’ campaign for the whole year. She will also participate in the Miss Plus Size International this year, and win lots of packages from Royal Africa Guesthouse, cash prizes and a four-day trip to Cape Town.

Teopolina Ndjuluwa, one of the finalists says she is looking forward to the event, and expects everything to go well for her. “If I win, I will spend half of my winnings on various community projects and in my studies as well,” she says.

Last Saturday, the finalists created awareness on Hepatitis E . They hosted a cleaning campaign in the Katutura Central.
The event on Saturday will feature a red carpet entrance from 18h00 and regular tickets are N$200 and N$500 for VIPs.
