The prosecutor general is set to decide whether or not to prosecute a Windhoek resident accused of viciously attacking and killing his wife with a hammer last year.
Inock Mazala Nalisa made his appearance in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court yesterday where he was informed about his case having been forwarded to the prosecutor general for a decision.
Should the prosecutor general decide to prosecute Nalisa, she would also have to decide on which charges he will be tried on.
Magistrate Olivia van der Colff postponed the matter to 19 November for the prosecutor general’s decision, remanding Nalisa in police custody.
Nalisa has been in police custody since 2 November 2020 after handing himself over to the Wanaheda police. State prosecutor Victoria Valombola informed the court that the State still objects to the release of Nalisa on bail pending the finalisation of his case.
The prosecution is currently charging Nalisa with a count of murder read with the provisions of Domestic Violence Act.
Nalisa is accused of murdering his wife Petra Minikonzo Nyakwambo (30) by stabbing and hitting her with a hammer at the back of her head following an argument, according to court documents.
The wife died instantly.
The incident occurred at the couple’s residence in Windhoek’s informal settlement of Okahandja Park on 30 October 2020.
