Mwazi re-appointed as CEO at NAB

The Namibia Agronomic Board’s directors have announced the reappointment of Fidelis Mwazi as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for five years, effective 01 August 2023.

Mwazi has headed the NAB since August 2018. He is a well-seasoned executive with extensive experience in the agronomic and horticulture industry, as well as in the academic and research environment. He holds a PhD in Agriculture and a Master’s Degree in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation.

Mwazi’s leadership led to significant local production increases, with white maize production reaching a record high of 98 000 MT in 2022 from 67 000 in 2017 and horticultural product exports surging to 86 259 MT valued at N$1.7 billion in the 2022/23 financial year, from 55 358 MT in the 2017/18 financial year. His commitment to compliance and meticulous attention to border control, inspections, and regulations boosted the industry’s reputation and expanded market accessibility and export opportunities for crop value chain actors.

On behalf of the board, Hubertus Hamm (chairperson) thanked Mwazi for his good stewardship for the past five years, and wished him success in the new term.

Reflecting on the appointment, Mwazi
said, “This reappointment reaffirms my commitment to advancing sustainable crop production, research, and stakeholder collaboration. I look forward to continuing our journey towards a green economy focused on fostering growth and innovation in the pursuit of excellence in agronomy and horticulture market development.”
