Oshikoto to inoculate residents this week

OMUTHIYA – The health directorate in Oshikoto is set to roll out the first phase of Covid-19 vaccination this week, starting with health workers and other frontline workers.

Regional health director Joshua Nghipangelwa told New Era officials have already collected the vaccines from the Oshakati medical store and are ready to start.

“However, vaccinating frontline workers does not mean others who are interested and willing cannot be catered for. We, therefore, encourage those willing to come forth, even though the emphasis is on frontlines,” said Nghipangelwa, who volunteered to be the first to receive the jab.

He said teams of health officials will be placed at various district hospitals, whereas others will be mobile to provide vaccination in rural areas and other health centres.

Namibia on Friday received 24 000 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines from the Covax facility in addition to the 100 000 Sinopharm doses donated by the Chinese government as well as 30 000 Covishield doses donated by Indian authorities.

Bank Windhoek boost

Meanwhile, the Bank Windhoek Omuthiya branch on Friday boosted the health directorate in the fight against Covid-19 by donating bottled water and a cash amount of N$3 000.

“We are all affected by this pandemic; hence, we need to play our part. By doing this, we are protecting our clients who happen to be patients under the health care service, hence our unwavering support for a safe community,” stated branch administrator Mushe Lishoni at the handover.
