‘Ouma’ Frederick gets dream house

BETHANIE – Sixty-eight year-old Lydia Frederick’s days of sleeping in a corrugated iron sheet structure are over.

This was after a good Samaritan came to her rescue, donating a brick house.

When New Era visited her at the new home, she could not contain her joy.

Frederick moved in about a month ago.   ‘’This was what I prayed for many nights and dreamed about having a roof over my head,’’ she said.

Frederick then expressed gratitude towards the donor, a foreign national who allegedly owns two farms in the area.

It is because of the foreign national that she and other less fortunate residents now live in decent accommodation with potable water, electricity and proper sewerage.

“This guy started with the project two years ago whereby he just needed a minimal amount of N$15 000 from each identified beneficiary after which he then completed the two-bedroom brick structures with a separate bathroom with his own resources,” Frederick said.

To finance the project, she borrowed N$13 000 through the Nampost pension loan scheme while her husband, Johannes (73) added the remaining
N$3 000.

“It is my wish that more elderly people in Bethanie follow my example to get their own houses. I am very grateful to this man who came and improved our living conditions,” she said.

The houses were constructed on serviced erven belonging to the respective beneficiaries.
