Student German Language Competition

WINDHOEK

For the 21st consecutive year students from all over the country who study German as a foreign language met in Windhoek once again the past weekend, to compete in the annual Language Competition organized by Goethe Centre/NaDS.

The aim of this competition is to promote the teaching of German as a foreign language at Namibian schools. This year 120 students from 20 schools all over Namibia (Grade 8 – Grade 12) participated in the final oral examination which took place on Saturday 15 September from 10h00 to 16h00 at the Goethe Centre.

All prizes were sponsored by the Windhoek business community and other private sponsors.

The German-Namibian Society in Germany (Deutsch-Namibische Gesellschaft: DNG) has sponsored two flights to Germany with a 4-weeks stay with German families for the best performers.

These have been won by Winnie Ndjalo from DHPS and Lucy Naris from Namib High School.

The Paedagogischer Austauschdienst has sponsored three more flights: These have been won by Esther Shiwedha from DHPS, Maresca van Staden from Tsumeb Secondary School and Alicia Brandt from Cosmos High School.
