Woermann armed robbers arrested

WALVIS BAY – The Namibian Police in Erongo arrested two of the four suspects who carried out an armed robbery at Swakopmund’s Mondesa Woermann Brock shop last week.

Community affairs commander Ileni Shapumba told the media that the four suspects managed to grab a cash box with about N$147 560 during the robbery.

The police recovered N$37 000, however, two suspects are still at large.

According to Shapumba, the suspects allegedly surprised the Southern Cross Security Company guards who came around 07h22 to the shop to collect the money for banking.

He said the four men accosted the guards, as they were about to leave.

“One of the suspects grabbed the driver’s firearm and shot his assistant in the abdomen. They then took the money from the loading box and drove towards Arandis in a black Nissan Note with registration number N39382SH.”

He said prompt action by the police led to the arrest of two suspects as well as the getaway car that was abandoned in Swakopmund.

According to Shapumba, a third suspect, identified as Malakia Shikongo Noabeb, who’s driving a silver Toyota Corolla, registration number N20615S is currently at large.

He is believed to have fled to the Khomas region or to the northern regions.

“The fourth suspect is not yet identified, however, we suspect that he has been seriously wounded, judging from the amount of blood found in the getaway vehicle as well as four teeth found in the car,” Shapumba said.

He added that police have visited various hospitals and clinics to see if he had been treated.

The police appeal to anyone who knows the whereabouts of the last two suspects to contact them as soon as possible.

Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu can be contacted at 0812464757 or detective Johannes Mwatongwe on 0812461121.

The suspects should be regarded as dangerous.
