Rundu Chiefs awards best performers

Rundu-based outfit Rundu Chiefs over the weekend awarded their players in different categories at a celebratory event.

It was held at Rundu to celebrate their victory for emerging as the champions of the Namport North-East Stream 1st Division 2024/2025 season with 42 points.

Best goalkeeper of the season award went to Nyika Simon, while the best defender award went to Gerson Paulus.

The best midfielder is Shaun Siyoka, Donaldson Ignatius is the best attacking midfielder, Tauno Shindinge is the best disciplined player, and Simon Ndumba is the best young player.

The top goal scorer and player of the season certificate went to Benson Kaluba, who scored 15 goals last season.

During the occasion, club chairman Agrippa Kamho Haindongo said the journey was tough but is grateful that his players left the pitch crowned champs.

“Preparing for the games this season demanded tremendous effort, discipline and resilience. Your dedication, teamwork and unwavering commitment made it all possible. For that, we are truly grateful. Thank you for your hard work and positive spirit that you have shown week in and week out. Whether we win, lose or draw, you represent the badge with honour and integrity,’’ he said.

Haindongo highlighted that the team rose to the top because each person who has been part of the movement has left a mark.

Collective efforts have brought the team to this point.

He extended his heartfelt appreciation to the club’s technical team for their tireless work behind the scenes.

“Your expertise, commitment and attention to detail have been instrumental to the team’s growth and success this season. To our supporters, the heartbeat of this club, thank you for your loyalty. Home or away, rain or shine, your voices lift the team, and your passion fuels everything we do.

“I vividly remember our last game in the Zambezi region – a moment that truly marked the rebirth of Rundu Chiefs. I didn’t expect so many people to leave the comfort of their homes and turn out in such large numbers,’’ he noted.

Haidongo appreciated the clubs board, sponsors and partners for their trust and support.

“Together, we’re not only building a competitive football team but a strong and lasting legacy. It has been my privilege to witness the growth of this club – not just in results, but in spirit, unity and ambition. The journey is far from over. With all of you by our side, the future looks very bright. Let’s continue working together, dreaming big, and making this club everything we know it can be,’’ he remarked.
