SA, Lesotho triumph at CAVB Beach Volleyball Tour

The Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF), in partnership with Deutscher Turn- und Sportverein (DTS), hosted the first leg of the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone Six Beach Volleyball Tour on 21-22 February 2026 at the DTS Sports Grounds in Olympia, Windhoek.

The event attracted more than 20 teams from Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Malawi and Botswana, all competing for the first-leg title and valuable continental ranking points.

In the men’s category, Danilo Von Ludwiger and Mthokosizi Mndingi from South Africa took first place, while Moroesi Tolofi and Neo Chapole of Lesotho took first in the women’s category. Each player gained 120 individual points and 240 as a team. In second place, Beene Matongo and Matildah Bwalya of Zambia took it in the women’s category, while Eduardo Afonso and Carlos Muondo of Angola took the men’s category, with each player gaining 108 individual points and 216 team points.

In third place of the women’s category, Zimbabwe’s Anna Morova and Chantal Mutede took the position, with Namibia’s Max Krafft and Jura Krafft taking it in the men’s category.

The tournament formed part of the regional circuit under the Confederation of African Volleyball, providing athletes with an opportunity to gain exposure and improve their standings on the African beach volleyball rankings.

Tobias Mwatelulo, president of the Namibia Volleyball Federation described the event as quite successful, with a high turn up of 24 male and 16 female teams from across SADC.

“The level of competition has improved exponentially, and the turnout of spectators was good and the organisers did quite well with the set up. Most of the Namibian teams were unfortunately eliminated from the quarter finals and we only managed one podium finish from the Krafft brothers,” Mwatelulo said. He further complimented all the podium finishers, stating that the point gained from this leg will contribute towards the qualification points of the 2028 Olympics.
