Shiimi calls for teamwork at SOE ministry

Staff Reporter

Acting public enterprise minister Iipumbu Shiimi has urged personnel at the ministry to promote teamwork and persistent diligence. Shiimi, who is also the finance minister, made the call when he was introducing himself to the ministry’s staff on Monday.

He emphasised the importance of the ministry’s mandate, and that he is committed and steadfast in working with all staff to fulfil the mandate of “positioning Namibia’s key public enterprises to play their meaningful role in the country’s development agenda”.

He further told staff further engagements will continue and become the order of the day, and suggested that as much as he will be stationed at the finance ministry, the operations of the public enterprise ministry will continue to be led by the acting executive director and deputy.

President Hage Geingob last week appointed Shiimi as the acting public enterprise minister for a period of six months, with effect from 1 April. His appointment follows the resignation of Leon Jooste.

“Under the powers vested in the President under section 4 of the Assignment of Powers Act, 1990 (Act No. 4 of 1990), read together with article 32 (3) (i) (dd) of the Namibian Constitution, his excellency Dr Hage G Geingob appoints Hon Ipumbu Shiimi as acting minister of public enterprises, following the resignation of the former minister of public enterprises Leon Jooste,” the statement by the presidency said.

Shiimi will oversee the transition of the ministry to the finance ministry.

He has been authorised to administer all laws entrusting powers, duties or functions applicable to public enterprises.
