OMAFO – Swapo party secretary general Sophia Shaningwa is confident that in the coming elections, the results will be better than the previous election and therefore, opposition parties will feel Swapo because the party has a story to tell.

“Swapo didn’t come yesterday. This is a big party with dedicated leaders,” she said on Saturday at a rally in Helao Nafidi, Ohangwena region.

Swapo’s diehard supporters who were singing
and dancing gathered for the party’s campaign for the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is the Presidential candidate for Swapo.

Shaningwa indicated that those who want her to fail won’t win, adding that Swapo will emerge victorious.

At the rally, she told party supporters that Nandi-Ndaitwah is the most capable candidate to become the country’s next president. “She’s not old. She’s energetic to lead the country. Therefore, we should give her our support,” she said, urging the public to stop insulting leaders on social media, especially Nandi-Ndaitwah.

The SG further urged those representing the party at the polling stations not to sleep or make friends with people from opposition parties.

“We will provide them with enough food and water. We want to make sure that results are accurate,” she added.

Meanwhile, she stressed that the Swapo- led government has made strides in bringing development to people, such as quality road infrastructure, telecommunication networks, quality healthcare, safety, security and free education. “Our enemies are addressing empty rallies. They are now out there trying, by all means, to use any method to try and garner the support which they do not have. They are trying to pay and buy souls,” Shaningwa mocked.

She continued that Swapo is the only party that can address the challenges facing communities by implementing impactful programmes.

“We will continue to improve our service delivery to people every day.”

She further urged Swapo supporters to intensify their campaigning by talking to people, house to house, through radio, TV, and social media to vote for Swapo and its Presidential candidate.

“I, therefore, urge all Swapo members, supporters and sympathisers to ensure a peaceful campaign,” she urged.

Also speaking at the rally, former governor of the Ohangwena region Usko Nghaamwa called on youth to avoid being used by opposition parties for empty promises. “They are also searching for jobs. Stop listening to empty cans,” he told the youth.
