LÜDERITZ – Swapo leader assigned to the //Kharas region Tom Alweendo said the party has a workable plan to address socio-economic challenges facing Namibians.
He said this while delivering a keynote address during a mini-rally in Lüderitz recently.
“We have what is needed to deliver in terms of the party manifesto,” he stated.
The mines and energy minister continued that Swapo’s plan to grow the country’s economy and reduce unemployment is working.
“All we are asking from you today is to give us the mandate for the next five years to make sure the sectors of our economy are going to work, and reduce and address the unemployment challenge in the country,” the politician requested.
He informed party members, supporters and sympathisers that Swapo was the first political party to acknowledge that it has challenges in terms of governance related to unemployment, insufficient infrastructural development, and not enough education and health services.
He promised that Swapo would ensure that the green hydrogen, as well as gas and oil projects, will be managed in such a manner that all Namibians benefit.
In terms of the exploration of Namibia’s rich minerals, he said they will no longer leave the country in raw form.
“Cabinet has passed a resolution that our minerals will no longer be exported before the value has been added upon it, hence the construction of two lithium-processing plants in the Erongo region, which can create much-needed employment opportunities for our people,” he stated.
He asked the audience if they were willing to leave these resources in the hands of people who did not know how the process started.
“The future of this country lies in our hands. We must and cannot throw away this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to continue to progress economically in our beloved Namibia,” he said.
Lucia Witbooi, chairperson of the Swapo Party leaders assigned to the //Kharas region, called on the youth to turn up in numbers, and defend their territory by voting for Swapo and its presidential candidate, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
“Be focused, stay firm and do not allow others to derail your beliefs, and want to mislead you by referring to what happened during the Botswana and South African elections,” she stated.
